About Us

The Society of Women Engineers, often abbreviated to SWE, is an Mid-West organization, one chapter of which is hosted here at the University of Chicago as an RSO (Recognized Student Organization). SWE itself is the world’s largest advocate and catalyst for change for women in engineering and technology, helping its members reach their full potential as both engineers and leaders through networking, professional development, and the shaping of public policy. SWE also inspires young girls to become engineers and supports them with scholarships.

UChicago SWE represents a resource for women who are striving to pursue higher education in fields that were instituted without our demographic in mind. Together, we are paving a path that is completely unique and powerful, as women and beyond, and we want this RSO to represent that with honor, grace, and admiration.
